This decision comes after Garcia tested positive for the banned performance-enhancing drug ostarine. The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) confirmed the ruling, which also reinstates Haney's undefeated record. As part of a settlement with NYSAC, Garcia will serve a one-year suspension starting from the date of the fight and will forfeit his $1.1 million purse to Golden Boy Promotions. Additionally, Garcia is required to pay the maximum state fine of $10,000. In response to the ruling, Garcia's team issued a statement asserting that he was a "victim of substance contamination," emphasizing that the detected levels of ostarine were minuscule and did not provide any competitive advantage. They further stated, "Ryan, with his legal team, has resolved this issue and firmly maintains his truth: he never intentionally took any banned substance. It's simply not in his nature." The statement also highlighted Garcia's history of voluntarily undergoing random drug testing throughout his career, noting that he has always maintained a clean record.
