OKTAGON 91 was supposed to be remembered as a major MMA night in Cologne. A sold-out Lanxess Arena, an intense middleweight title fight and Krzysztof Jotko crowned as the new champion. Instead, much of the conversation after the event has focused on what happened after the decision was announced: chaos inside the cage, heated teams and a scene that OKTAGON has now answered with fines and suspensions.
On July 18, 2026, the promotion published its disciplinary decision regarding the incident after the main event between Kerim Engizek and Krzysztof Jotko. The sporting dispute is not fully over, but the first major part of the fallout is now clear.
€20,000 and a six-month suspension
OKTAGON fined Kerim Engizek €20,000 and handed him a six-month competition suspension. The promotion stated that Engizek’s cooperation and self-reflection were taken into account, as well as the fact that this was his first disciplinary offense within OKTAGON.
Pouya Rahmani received a €7,500 fine and a nine-month ban from OKTAGON tournaments. According to the promotion, his assault on one of Krzysztof Jotko’s coaches and his role in escalating the situation were key factors in the decision.
Metin Engizek was also sanctioned. OKTAGON fined him €2,500 and suspended him for nine months, citing unsportsmanlike conduct, including spitting water toward Jotko after the main event. In addition, another individual received a two-year ban from all OKTAGON events for allegedly initiating the physical altercation.
The protest is separate
Importantly, these sanctions relate to the post-fight incident, not directly to the sporting result. Engizek’s protest against the outcome of the title fight is being handled separately by GEMMAF, according to OKTAGON. That means part of the story remains open.
That is exactly why the case is so explosive. For many fans, this is not only about whether Jotko deserved the decision. It is about the line between emotion and losing control. MMA thrives on rivalry, pressure and adrenaline. But when teams clash after a title fight, sporting intensity quickly becomes an image problem.
OKTAGON has to show control
For OKTAGON, the situation is especially sensitive because Germany has become one of the promotion’s most important markets. Cologne was not a small experiment. It was a major statement. When an event like that is overshadowed by a cage incident, the promotion has to show that it can control its biggest stages.
The sanctions send a clear message: emotion is part of the sport, physical escalation after the fight is not. At the same time, fans will continue to debate whether six months and financial penalties are strict enough for such a visible incident.
Gossip with real consequences
The story has everything combat sports gossip needs: a lost title, an angry team, a disputed belt, fairness debates and now official sanctions. The difference from ordinary social media drama is that this time, real consequences followed.
