Dana White's Contender Series moves into Week 5 on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, in Las Vegas. The official weigh-ins confirmed the card but also produced the first clear issue: Christian Echols weighed 189 pounds for his middleweight bout against Martin Kozak, above the permitted limit.

The episode starts at 7:00 p.m. ET / 4:00 p.m. PT from the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, streaming on Paramount+. For European viewers, that means an overnight Wednesday start.

Kwon gets another chance

The most familiar name on the card is not in the featured bout. Kwon Won Il meets Apollo Gomes at bantamweight. According to UFC, Kwon is returning to the Contender Series for a second time after being stopped by Juan Diaz with a spinning back elbow in the second round last season.

That makes the matchup more interesting than a standard prospect audition. Kwon brings international experience and a reputation for aggressive exchanges, but the show does not reward resumes by themselves. Against Gomes, he has to show that his risk can translate into a UFC-ready performance rather than only into chaos.

Pasley and Berisha sit on top

UFC lists Quentin Pasley vs Arlind Berisha at light heavyweight as the featured bout. Both made weight cleanly: Pasley at 204.5 pounds, Berisha at 205.5. In that division, the Contender Series often rewards athletes who turn size and power into immediate, readable UFC moments.

The rest of the card is settled after the scale: Isaac Moreno and Reginaldo Junior both weighed 170.5 pounds at welterweight, Kwon and Gomes each came in at 135.5, and Colton Loud and Christian Natividad both hit 125.5 at flyweight. Only Kozak vs Echols enters fight night with a weigh-in caveat attached.

What the miss changes

Missing weight on the Contender Series is more than paperwork. Echols can still fight if the bout remains approved, but the night is no longer clean for him. A fighter asking for a UFC contract has to offer reliability as well as performance. Three pounds over the middleweight allowance changes that impression before the first exchange.

That is why Week 5 is a useful mid-season checkpoint. After Week 4 produced another wave of contracts, this episode is not only about winners. UFC is looking for fighters who arrive with a usable profile: an experienced returnee like Kwon, a light heavyweight near the top of the card, or an unbeaten prospect such as Natividad. The scale has already shown who began that audition cleanly and who has to answer for it.
