Max Holzer challenges OKTAGON champion Igor Severino at Hannover's ZAG Arena on November 7. It is the unbeaten German's first bantamweight title fight — and his first appearance in the division. The matchup was announced in the summer; with the event now close, the key sporting question is how Holzer will handle the move down in weight. Our earlier report on Holzer covers his path to the title shot.

Holzer drops to bantamweight

OKTAGON still lists the 24-year-old as its number-two featherweight. According to Fighters Only, he is moving down a division for the first time to face Severino. Holzer is 12–0, with ten finishes, including seven submissions. He last stopped Khalid Taha by first-round TKO in May. Whether he can carry that finishing ability into bantamweight is the central unknown in this matchup.

Severino seeks a definitive defence

The 23-year-old Brazilian arrives in Hannover as champion with a 10–1 record. His scheduled title defence against Zhalgas Zhumagulov in June ended in a no contest after an accidental low blow. Against Holzer, Severino gets another chance to defend his belt in a fight that produces a definitive result.

Jan Holzer also on the card

The card has another local connection: Max's brother Jan faces Ján Švagerko. Gjoni Palokaj meets Zafar Mohsen at featherweight. The main event, however, is Max Holzer's test: after twelve straight wins, can he succeed against the champion in a new weight class?
