Makhachev does not arrive in Philadelphia as an ordinary champion. He won the belt against Jack Della Maddalena in November 2025 and now reaches his first defense at the new limit. Garry brings the right sporting argument. After the only loss of his career against Shavkat Rakhmonov, he worked his way back through Carlos Prates and Belal Muhammad. The Muhammad win makes this title fight more interesting because Garry had to deal with an experienced pressure and control fighter.
Why UFC 330 holds up
The UFC frames the night around two title fights. Alongside Makhachev vs. Garry, Mackenzie Dern makes her first strawweight title defense against Gillian Robertson. The official event page also lists Edson Barboza vs. Esteban Ribovics and Mansur Abdul-Malik vs. Dustin Stoltzfus on the main card.
That makes UFC 330 less dependent on one main event than most cards. The night has belts, veterans, clear style contrasts and a location the UFC is marketing as a Philadelphia return. Still, the welterweight title fight will decide how large the story feels after the weekend.
The real question
For Makhachev, Garry is the first true measuring point as welterweight champion. Not because Garry is the loudest opponent, but because he can force Makhachev to solve distance again and again. If the champion controls the hips early, the fight can look familiar very quickly. If Garry stays free for long stretches, the title defense becomes a tactical stress test.
