Tye Ruotolo Challenges Christian Lee for ONE Gold

Tye Ruotolo is getting a title shot in just his third MMA fight. On 6 November, he challenges Christian Lee at ONE The Inner Circle 37 in Bangkok. Lee holds the promotion's lightweight and welterweight MMA belts; only his lightweight MMA title is at stake, not Ruotolo's welterweight submission grappling crown.

Two MMA fights, two submissions

Ruotolo has fought twice under MMA rules and finished both opponents with rear-naked chokes. In his September 2025 debut, he submitted Adrian Lee in round two and handed him his first professional loss. In November, he stopped Shozo Isojima 2:26 into round one. His grappling credentials were already established at world-championship level; his MMA record is still just 2-0.

Adrian is Christian's younger brother. That connection gives the matchup a family angle, but the sporting challenge goes well beyond it. Christian Lee is an established MMA champion with far more experience. Ruotolo must show not only that he can control opponents on the ground, but that his approach works against a complete MMA titleholder.

Lee is dangerous on the ground, too

ONE lists Lee at 18 wins and four losses, with 17 victories inside the distance. In his most recent title defence, against Alibeg Rasulov in November 2025, he repeatedly defended takedowns before winning by second-round TKO. A D’Arce-choke position and grounded knees set up the finish. He is not simply a stand-up fighter whom a grappling specialist can expect to drag into unfamiliar territory.

Ruotolo's two MMA wins show how quickly he can become dangerous once the fight reaches the mat. They have yet to show how he handles prolonged striking exchanges or an experienced opponent who consistently stops his takedowns. That is the sporting question behind this unusually early title opportunity; it does not, by itself, identify a favourite.

Title fight on 6 November

ONE has scheduled the bout for Friday, 6 November, at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok. The promotion says the stream is available to members.
