Alexander Volkanovski retained his UFC featherweight title in Abu Dhabi, stopping previously unbeaten Movsar Evloev with strikes at 4:54 of round two. Petr Yan won the night's other title fight against Merab Dvalishvili, while Abus Magomedov needed only 1:44 to defeat Cam Rowston.
Volkanovski hands Evloev his first loss
Evloev stayed competitive in the opening round and deep into the second. A clean Volkanovski right hand then made the challenger turn away. The champion followed, put him on the canvas and finished with strikes. It was Evloev's first professional defeat. According to the UFC, the win also moved Volkanovski past José Aldo for the most featherweight title-fight victories.
Yan retains; Magomedov finishes early
Dvalishvili pushed a high pace and kept Yan occupied with takedown attempts early. Yan found more success from the third round onward, particularly with body shots, and gradually took control of the stand-up exchanges. All three judges scored their third meeting 48-47 for the defending champion.
Magomedov attacked Rowston's lead leg before the Australian shot for a takedown. The Germany-based middleweight caught him in a guillotine and rendered him unconscious, producing a technical submission. Afterward, Magomedov called for Gregory Rodrigues next. CS.C had previewed the matchup.
Aaron Pico also made a statement, stopping former two-division OKTAGON champion Losene Keita in 74 seconds. On the prelims, Dominick Reyes knocked out Azamat Murzakanov after a head kick and follow-up strikes.
