A multi-discipline platform

ONE was founded in Singapore in 2011. Unlike MMA-only promotions, it places several disciplines on the same card. MMA championships can sit beside Muay Thai, kickboxing and grappling bouts, so ONE presents itself as a broader martial arts brand rather than a single-sport league.

Values and presentation

ONE identifies respect, courage, integrity and humility as central values. Athletes are often presented through their personal journeys and as role models. Large arena production and a calendar centered on Asian markets support that identity.

The weight and hydration system

ONE divisions use familiar names but sit ten pounds above the equivalent Unified Rules class. A ONE flyweight, for example, competes up to 135 rather than 125 pounds. Athletes must also pass hydration testing. Division names therefore cannot be compared directly with UFC or OKTAGON. See MMA weight classes compared.

MMA rules and scoring

Standard MMA bouts run for three five-minute rounds and world title bouts for five. The key difference is judging: three judges score the fight as a whole, not round by round. Near-finishes and damage rank highly, followed by effective combinations, control, takedowns and aggression.

ONE Muay Thai and kickboxing use round-by-round 10-Point Must scoring instead. Gloves and legal techniques also depend on the discipline. When reading a ONE card, the listed rule set is essential information.
